Former Cabinet Secretary and ex-senior adviser to President William Ruto, Moses Kuria, has publicly thrown his weight behind retired President Uhuru Kenyatta following his recent remarks at the Jubilee Party’s National Delegates Conference (NDC).
Kuria declared that Uhuru, as Jubilee Party leader, was fully within his rights to speak on political matters and guide the direction of the party.
“Uhuru Kenyatta has every right to express his views about everything and anything. Uhuru Kenyatta has every right to promote Jubilee Party as the Party Leader. I stand with Uhuru Kenyatta,” Kuria said.
Uhuru, who has largely remained silent since leaving office in 2022, grabbed headlines last week when he addressed the Jubilee NDC. In his speech, he emphasized party unity and reaffirmed Jubilee’s position in Kenya’s political landscape.
The former Head of State also announced plans to embark on a nationwide “meet the people” tour, marking his renewed involvement in grassroots mobilization ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to his announcement, Uhuru will traverse various counties, including rural areas, where he intends to directly engage supporters and strengthen Jubilee’s structures. His re-entry into active politics is seen as a strategic move to re-energize the party, which has struggled with internal divisions since the 2022 elections.
Kuria’s open support comes as a surprise to many, considering his close association with President Ruto and his previous criticisms of Uhuru during the 2022 political season. However, his latest remarks suggest a shifting political realignment as the country gears up for the next election cycle.
With Uhuru’s planned tour and Kuria’s unexpected endorsement, Jubilee Party appears set to stage a more visible comeback on the national stage, potentially influencing coalition politics ahead of 2027.
