Former Presidential Advisor Moses Kuria has raised alarms over an alleged scheme to disrupt former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s campaign tour. In a statement shared on Tuesday evening, Kuria claimed that certain individuals linked to the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party plan to attend Gachagua’s rallies dressed in Chama Cha Kazi (CCK) uniforms to create the impression that his party was behind the disruption.
Kuria further alleged that the alleged disruptors would demand Ksh 10 million, claiming it was owed by Gachagua to CCK’s candidate in the upcoming Mbeere North by-election, Hon Duncan Mbui.
“For the record, Hon Gachagua does not owe any money to Hon Mbui, and any claims to that effect should be treated with the contempt they deserve,” Kuria emphasized.
He described the plot as a deliberate attempt to tarnish both Gachagua’s and CCK’s image. Kuria warned that such schemes could be part of a broader strategy to incite political tension ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The former Cabinet Secretary reiterated CCK’s zero-tolerance stance against electoral hostility, noting that his party has learned lessons from the 2007–2008 post-election violence period. He stressed that CCK would not be associated with any acts of political provocation.
Kuria also called on the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to investigate the allegations and take preventive measures before the planned rally on November 27. “What will happen on November 27 is a harbinger of what could happen on August 10, 2027, if these schemes are ignored,” he cautioned.
The Mbeere North by-election has turned into a high-stakes contest, seen as a litmus test for President William Ruto and former DP Gachagua in the Mt Kenya region. While UDA backs Leonard Muthende, the United Opposition supports Democratic Party candidate Newton Karish, intensifying the political faceoff.
