Public Service Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has hit out at opposition politicians for making what he termed as “inhumane and politically bankrupt” remarks about ODM leader Raila Odinga’s health.
In a heartfelt post on X, Kuria recounted moments when the former Prime Minister personally visited him during his long hospital stays despite their deep political differences.
“It pains me to the core,” Kuria wrote. “In 2020 during Covid, I was hospitalised for 40 days. Baba Raila Amolo Odinga risked his life and visited me. In late 2021 and early 2022, I was hospitalised for five months. Baba visited me three times at Karen Hospital and once in Dubai. That was when I was in Tanga Tanga and he was in Azimio.”
The CS, who once served as a key ally of then-Deputy President William Ruto, said Raila’s acts of compassion transcended politics. “This most compassionate man is the one some are saying bad things regarding his health in political rallies. Politics is not everything. I hate you all,” he lamented.
His statement comes amid widespread speculation about Raila’s health after reports surfaced that he had travelled abroad for medical treatment.
However, Raila’s spokesperson, Dennis Onyango, dismissed the reports, clarifying that the ODM leader was on a routine trip and not unwell. “He did not travel to Europe as alleged. He is not indisposed as prayed for by his frustrated opponents,” Onyango said.
Onyango accused certain political figures—including Rigathi Gachagua, Kalonzo Musyoka, and Eugene Wamalwa—of spreading misinformation about Raila.
In response, Wiper Party Secretary-General Senator Shakila Abdalla defended Kalonzo, saying, “Kalonzo Musyoka harbours no ill will toward Mr Odinga. Any suggestion that he wishes harm upon Raila is baseless.”
Abdalla further dismissed claims linking Kalonzo to Raila’s failed AU Commission bid, terming ODM’s allegations as “unfounded and unnecessary.”
