Eldas Constituency Member of Parliament (MP) Adan Keynan has called on opposition leaders to exercise restraint and respect President William Ruto’s mandate instead of constantly lecturing him.
Speaking during a public event in Wajir on Saturday, September 27, 2025, Keynan reminded Kenyans of the country’s political history, noting that every president has faced scrutiny but was ultimately allowed to govern. He pointed out that respect for the presidency has always been a cornerstone of Kenya’s democratic journey.
“Every president has been here. There was Jomo Kenyatta, we respected him until his passing. Moi served and handed over to Kibaki, who later handed over to Uhuru. After Uhuru, we now have Ruto. I want every president to be accorded the respect he deserves,” Keynan said.
The veteran lawmaker stressed that while constructive criticism is part of democracy, constant interference undermines the work of the presidency. He urged opposition parties to give President Ruto the space to deliver on his promises, warning that unending criticism only stalls progress.
“We cannot keep comparing and criticising. Let him govern,” he said, adding that Kenya benefits more from supportive engagement than from daily political battles.
Keynan also commended President Ruto for steering infrastructural development across the country. He highlighted the rollout of roads and public works projects as evidence that the administration is delivering on key promises where previous governments struggled.
“We should support efforts that improve livelihoods rather than lecture the president every day,” he remarked.
The MP further praised recent legislative reforms, particularly the removal of the “kipande” requirement, saying such changes are proof of progress under Ruto’s leadership.
“President Ruto has achieved developments that others could not. This is another reason to give him the respect he deserves,” Keynan concluded.
His remarks come amid heightened political debates between the government and opposition, with critics questioning some of the administration’s policies. However, Keynan maintains that respect for the office of the President is critical for Kenya’s stability and progress.
