Kitutu Chache South MP Anthony Kibagendi has broken his silence over a heated exchange with his Kitutu Chache North counterpart Japheth Nyakundi during a funeral in Kisii County last Friday.
What Sparked the Clash
The drama began when Kibagendi accused President William Ruto of being a liar. His remarks triggered chants of “one-term” from mourners. Nyakundi, who was the master of ceremony, did not take the comments kindly.
According to Kibagendi, Nyakundi tried to snatch the microphone and even attempted to push him off the podium.
“Because he is a sycophant of the system, he did not like that I was adding fuel to the fire. He tried to grab the mic from me and even attempted to throw me off stage,” Kibagendi said in an interview with Citizen TV.
“It Was Not a Fight”
The youthful legislator dismissed claims that the altercation turned into a fistfight. He described it as a minor incident blown out of proportion by the media.
“Because of my fitness I managed to stop him, but it was not a fight. Had we fought, he is not as fit as I am. He may be huge but it’s a lot of fat,” he noted.
Refuses to Take Responsibility
Kibagendi maintained that he will not take responsibility for the incident. He argued that political disagreements should be handled with civility, not physical confrontations.
“There is absolutely no way I take responsibility because I was saying what I say every day. He was uncomfortable with it and should have let me speak,” he said.
Public Reaction
The scuffle has raised concerns about the conduct of leaders during public events. Critics say such scenes undermine the respect and dignity of Parliament.
