A group of over 40 MPs from the Mount Kenya region allied to President William Ruto have issued a bold call for the immediate arrest and prosecution of individuals behind recent violent incidents that rocked various parts of the country. Speaking after a closed-door meeting in Naivasha, the lawmakers condemned the loss of lives and destruction of key economic infrastructure, warning that the chaos threatens national unity and regional stability.
“There can be no sacred cows. Kenya is governed by the rule of law, and no one is above it,” the MPs said in a joint statement. They demanded that investigations be launched into what they described as “reckless, selfish politics” that incited targeted attacks on enterprises critical to the livelihoods of many in the Mt Kenya region.
The MPs, under the Mount Kenya Parliamentary Caucus, said businesses employing thousands of youth and supporting families had been deliberately destroyed. “Why would anyone incite the burning of enterprises that feed our families? Such heinous sabotage only tears down our own house,” they lamented.
Beyond addressing the violence, the MPs defended Mt Kenya’s right to determine its political path without coercion. They dismissed ongoing attempts to pressure the region into shifting political allegiances, affirming their support for the Kenya Kwanza administration as a move aimed at ensuring continued development and unity.
“We assert categorically that our community, like all Kenyans, has the right to belong to any political association. We have chosen to work with the current government for the sake of unity and development,” they said.
The MPs emphasized that Mt Kenya remains open to partnerships that support national progress and warned against being dragged into ethnic or divisive politics.
“We are free citizens in a free country. No amount of intimidation will force us into surrendering our freedom,” the caucus declared, urging the public to reject politics of hate and embrace peace.
“Kenya is ours to build, not to burn. When Mount Kenya stands united with the rest of the country, the whole nation becomes stronger.”
