Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has issued a strong warning to the Mt Kenya region, cautioning that it could lose the Deputy President’s position if it fails to solidly back President William Ruto ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during a church service at the African Independent Pentecostal Church of Africa (AIPCA) in Othaya, Nyeri County on Sunday, Mudavadi emphasized the importance of political loyalty, urging the region to safeguard its current political standing.
“A bird in hand is better than 10 in the bush. Hold on to what you have, take it seriously,” Mudavadi stated, stressing that there are many political players eyeing the DP positionincluding himself.
He praised Mt Kenya leaders for their support of the Kenya Kwanza administration but warned against complacency. “You are solid, but if you continue playing and let it slip, we want it and we will take it,” he said, making it clear that other regions are keenly watching for any political opening.
Mudavadi noted that Mt Kenya is privileged to be working with a president who has deep trust in its people, something he said should not be taken for granted. He urged the region to remain committed to Ruto’s leadership and to continue collaborating with other parts of the country in national development.
“This region is lucky. You are working with a president who has faith in you. Do not waste this opportunity,” he reiterated.
Drawing a comparison to his own Western Kenya region, Mudavadi pointed out that despite never producing a president, they have consistently supported national leadership. He argued that patriotism should not be pegged to occupying high office alone.
“For now, a president has never come from Western Kenya, but we live, work, grow and defend this country. That’s what being Kenyan is about,” he said.
His remarks come amid political realignments and growing speculation about the 2027 elections, where regional support is expected to play a critical role in shaping the next government.
