Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has called on leaders and residents of the Western region to rally behind President William Ruto’s 2027 re-election bid. Speaking at a fundraising and empowerment event in Vihiga County hosted by Woman Representative Beatrice Adagala, Mudavadi emphasized the need for unity in the region to strengthen its political voice and influence.
“The Western region must unite and speak with one voice. We are stronger when we walk together,” Mudavadi declared, urging leaders to shelve personal ambitions and focus on a shared political direction.
The event brought together key political figures from the region, including National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula and Sirisia MP John Walukhe. Their presence underscored the growing momentum within the region’s leadership to align with President Ruto’s administration ahead of the 2027 general election.
Wetang’ula echoed Mudavadi’s sentiments, noting that unity would not only increase the region’s bargaining power in national matters but also ensure equitable development.
“We have been in politics for some time and we know that in politics, however wise you are, without the people you amount to nothing. As a region, we must walk together and speak the same language in development matters as we rally behind President William Ruto,” Wetang’ula said.
Sirisia MP John Walukhe used the platform to defend the Constituency Development Fund (CDF), cautioning against any attempts to abolish it. He argued that the fund remains a critical tool for grassroots development, especially in education and infrastructure.
“The CDF has transformed our constituencies. We must protect it because it touches the lives of ordinary Kenyans directly,” Walukhe stated.
The push for regional unity and support for President Ruto reflects broader political realignments as the country inches closer to the 2027 polls. Mudavadi and Wetang’ula, both key Western leaders within the Kenya Kwanza coalition, appear keen on solidifying the region’s support to ensure it remains central in national decision-making.
The event also highlighted the region’s resolve to prioritize development and cohesion, positioning Western Kenya as a strategic player in the upcoming political season.
