Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has expressed confidence that President William Ruto is firmly on course for re-election in 2027, especially with the support of ODM leader Raila Odinga.
Speaking in Malava, Kakamega County, during an engagement with boda boda operators on Friday, Mudavadi urged Kenyans not to “gamble” with the next General Election, describing Ruto as the surest bet for continuity.
Mudavadi, who also serves as the Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, reminded residents that he had accurately predicted Ruto’s 2022 victory long before the elections. “I told you that the person who was going to be President was William Ruto. You thought I was joking, but I spoke the truth. Let us walk together again,” he said.
He dismissed speculation that Ruto could be vulnerable in 2027, arguing that his alliance with Raila has fortified his political base. “This time round, it’s Ruto and Raila—and Mudavadi will be there too. I don’t want to hear that you are taking chances. You have been shown the route, and I will tell you again and again, that is the route,” he declared.
Mudavadi, alongside National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, shifted allegiance from Raila’s Azimio coalition to Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza ahead of the 2022 polls. Their defection is widely credited with helping Ruto make significant inroads in Western Kenya, a region traditionally considered an ODM stronghold.
The Western vote proved decisive in Ruto’s narrow victory, where he secured 7.1 million votes (50.49 per cent) against Raila’s 6.9 million (48.85 per cent). Ruto also met the constitutional threshold by garnering at least 25 per cent of valid votes in 39 counties, compared to Raila’s 34.
Beyond 2027, Mudavadi also turned attention to the upcoming Malava by-election set for November 27, 2025. The seat fell vacant following the death of MP Malulu Injendi on February 17. He urged Malava residents to exercise civic responsibility and make informed decisions at the ballot.
“This is your chance to show the country that you stand firm. Make thoughtful decisions when casting your votes,” Mudavadi told the crowd.
With Raila now on board and Western leaders consolidating their influence, Kenya Kwanza is seeking to project a united front ahead of 2027.
