Mumias East Member of Parliament Peter Salasya was on Monday presented before the Milimani Magistrate’s Court following his dramatic arrest along the Isiolo-Nanyuki highway on Friday. The exact nature of the charges against the outspoken legislator remains unclear, as The Star has not yet established the specific accusations.
According to a statement from his aide shared on social media, Salasya’s legal team was initially directed to wait outside Court 6. However, the magistrate later announced that there was an error in the charge sheet, necessitating the transfer of the case to Court 2. The aide hinted at possible manipulation in the handling of the case, stating, “Seems someone is managing this matter.”
Salasya’s arrest unfolded in a tense and dramatic manner. In a post on his social media pages, the MP recounted how his convoy was intercepted by individuals identifying themselves as officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI). He alleged that the men fired shots at his vehicle, disarmed his security personnel, and pursued him aggressively.
“I have just been attacked by unknown individuals claiming to be DCI officers,” he wrote. “They disarmed my security team, shot at my vehicle, and pursued me. One of my guards managed to help me flee into nearby bushes for safety.”
Eyewitness reports and the MP’s account indicate that several vehicles were involved in the operation, which resulted in the immobilisation of Salasya’s four-wheel-drive vehicle after its tires were shot at. He was later detained at Nairobi Central Police Station.
Salasya was reportedly returning from political events in Meru and Isiolo and was en route to Nanyuki for more rallies when the incident occurred. The timing of his arrest and the confusion surrounding the charges have raised questions among his supporters, some of whom suspect political motives behind the operation.
As legal proceedings continue, pressure is mounting on authorities to clarify the reasons behind Salasya’s arrest and ensure transparency in the judicial process. The case is expected to attract further public and political attention in the coming days.
