Tana River Senator Danson Mungatana has asked elected leaders to prove what they have done before seeking re-election in 2027.
On September 7, 2025, Mungatana shared on Facebook that leaders must give regular reports to the people they serve. He stressed that accountability should come before campaigns.
Call for Accountability
Speaking at a meeting with grassroots leaders from Handampia, Maweni, Bondeni, and Kelokelo, the Senator said leaders should not focus only on politics. Instead, they must explain their achievements and activities in office.
“If you are in office, you must tell us what you have done for Tana River before asking for a new seat,” Mungatana said.
He added that leaders who spend all their time campaigning without updating citizens are failing in their duty.
Sharing His Senate Work
Mungatana explained that the meeting was aimed at informing locals about his work in the Senate. His role includes representation, oversight, and lawmaking. He said leaders should hold similar forums to build trust with their constituents.
“Leaders must explain to citizens and provide reports regularly, not just engage in politics from morning to evening,” he noted.
Warning Against Divisive Politics
The Senator also spoke about unity in Tana River politics. On August 24, 2025, he urged residents to reject leaders who promote ethnic-based politics.
He warned against politicians who push for a government formed by only two tribes—the Orma and the Wardhei.
“There are some people wandering around, saying we should take two tribes to form a government. What kind of government is that? That is a government of daydreams,” he said.
A Message of Unity
Mungatana urged leaders to focus on peace and development instead of tribal politics. His message was clear: accountability and inclusivity are the best path as the county prepares for the 2027 elections.
