Police in Murang’a County are investigating a shocking incident in Kanorero village, Kangema Sub-County, where a woman allegedly stabbed her three children, killing two on the spot and leaving the third in critical condition.
According to police reports, the woman is suspected to have attacked her children after accusing her husband of infidelity. The victims included a seven-year-old and a two-year-old who died instantly, while their four-year-old sibling sustained grievous injuries and is currently receiving treatment in hospital.
After the attack, the woman reportedly attempted to stab herself before surrendering at Kanorero Police Post. The bodies of the two deceased children were taken to Kangema morgue, while the suspect was detained at Kangema Police Station.
The children’s father, Julius Maina, recounted the horrific moment he discovered the tragedy. He said his wife called him at around 2am on Friday night, shouting his name and asking him to come and bury their children.
“I found two of them already dead, while the third was clinging to life,” he told reporters. Maina added that hours earlier, his wife had confronted him over suspicions of infidelity and expressed a desire to leave the marriage.
Family members condemned the killings, demanding justice for the young victims. James Mwangi, a relative, urged authorities to take firm action against the woman, calling the act cruel and unforgivable.
Former Kanorero Assistant Chief Mwangi Kihara appealed to couples facing marital challenges to seek guidance rather than resorting to violence. He advised families to turn to elders, church leaders, or counsellors for help.
As police continue investigations, the Murang’a community remains in shock, struggling to come to terms with the devastating loss of innocent lives.
