A fresh showdown is expected on Thursday, August 7, 2025, as Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen appears before the Senate Standing Committee on Information, Communication, and Technology. The session, to be held at Bunge Towers, is set to be a flashpoint in the ongoing feud between Murkomen and Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei.
The CS will respond to a question posed by Cherargei concerning the digitisation of government services an area central to Kenya’s digital transformation strategy. The appearance comes at a time when tensions between the two leaders are at an all-time high.
Cherargei, a vocal critic of Murkomen, has repeatedly called for the CS’s resignation, citing what he terms as incompetence and failure to address key issues such as insecurity. The senator has also criticized Murkomen’s record during his time as Cabinet Secretary for Roads and Transport, particularly over his handling of road safety.
“The Interior CS has failed Kenyans. He must step down,” Cherargei has asserted in several recent public statements.
The personal animosity between the two flared further last month when Murkomen claimed during a Senate session that he had taught Cherargei in law school. The senator quickly denied the claim on social media, accusing Murkomen of spreading falsehoods.
“For the record, CS Murkomen never taught me in any class of law,” Cherargei wrote.
Murkomen, never one to back down, fired back with sarcasm, saying Cherargei criticizes every ministry he interacts with. “When I left Sports, he never asked for my resignation because Kenya lost in volleyball. But two months into Interior, he already wanted me out,” Murkomen said.
Analysts believe the rivalry between the two reflects not just policy disagreements but deeper political and regional tensions within the ruling coalition. With the media invited to Thursday’s session, the encounter promises political drama and sharp exchanges—potentially reigniting a feud that continues to capture national attention.
