Kipchumba Murkomen has confirmed that detectives have made progress in the investigation into the killing of lawyer Mbobu.
Speaking in Migori County on Thursday, Murkomen revealed that the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has already identified persons of interest. He said the individuals were being interrogated as part of ongoing investigations.
Witnesses Step Forward
According to the CS, several witnesses have shared information with investigators. This has helped detectives piece together what happened on the night of the attack.
“We have been in touch with the DCI since this incident happened, and I am happy to note that there is progress. Some persons of interest have been identified,” Murkomen stated.
He added that detectives are still looking for more suspects. At the same time, he encouraged Kenyans to share any useful details with the nearest police station.
Murkomen Mourns His Former Teacher
The CS also mourned the late lawyer, describing him as eloquent, hardworking, and highly knowledgeable. Murkomen revealed that Mbobu was not only his teacher at university but also a close friend.
“This is a very sad thing that has happened in our country, and it is akin to what happened to Ong’ondo Were. I feel very sad because Mbobu was my teacher and my friend,” he said.
Details of the Murder
Mbobu was shot dead on Tuesday, September 9, along Magadi Road. Unknown gunmen attacked him as he was driving home after attending several meetings in Nairobi’s Central Business District.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the lawyer was shot five times in the head. Detectives recovered three used cartridges from the scene.
A post-mortem examination will be conducted on Thursday, September 11, at the Lee Funeral Home in Nairobi. Chief Government Pathologist Johansen Oduor will lead the process.
The murder has sparked outrage, with Kenyans calling for justice and a thorough investigation to bring the killers to book.
