A parking altercation outside a popular club in Narok Town turned deadly early Saturday morning, July 12, when a local businessman shot and killed another motorist.
According to police, the incident occurred in the club’s parking yard following a heated argument over a blocked parking space. The suspect, a licensed firearm holder, reportedly pulled out his Glock pistol and shot Mandela Nabala, 35, in the chin, fatally injuring him.
Nabala was rushed to the Narok County Referral Hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival. Officers responding to the scene confiscated the firearm, which had 14 rounds of ammunition, and recovered one spent cartridge. The suspect, whose identity remains undisclosed, was detained at the local police station for questioning, and his vehicle was also impounded.
Police have launched investigations into the incident amid growing concerns about firearm misuse among licensed holders. Authorities noted a disturbing increase in gun-related incidents involving both civilians and members of disciplined forces. Currently, Kenya has about 15,000 licensed firearm holders who are expected to undergo rigorous vetting and training before receiving permits.
Elsewhere in Machakos County, two separate incidents of fatal violence have shocked residents. In Wendano village, Tala, a man was brutally killed and his body set ablaze after allegedly being caught in a relationship with a married woman. Police said the suspect, believed to be the woman’s husband, confronted the man while he was purchasing vegetables from the woman. The victim sustained severe head, leg, and hand injuries before being doused in petrol and set on fire. The suspect fled the scene, and a manhunt is underway.
In another disturbing case, the body of 45-year-old Faith Mwende was found hidden under a bed in her home in Kalama, Machakos. Police said she had visible bruises and had soiled herself, indicating a struggle before death. Three 90-kilogram bags of beans were reported stolen from her home, suggesting robbery as a possible motive.
Investigations into all three incidents are ongoing as police urge calm and cooperation from the public.
