Ndia Member of Parliament George Kariuki has taken aim at former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, insisting that the Mount Kenya region will rally behind leaders who prioritize development rather than self-proclaimed political kingpins.
Speaking during an inspection tour of road projects in Ndia Constituency on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, Kariuki said leadership must be earned through tangible results, not divisive political rhetoric.
“No one has been crowned the ‘King of the Mountain’, and certainly not through intimidation or shouting matches on radio stations,” Kariuki remarked. “Mt Kenya will only follow a leader with vision, not politics that add no value to Kenyans.”
A close ally of President William Ruto, the legislator dismissed Gachagua’s recent calls for the region to rally behind him. He described such assertions as outdated and contrary to the region’s needs, arguing that residents are more concerned about jobs, opportunities, and infrastructure than political theatrics.
Kariuki highlighted key government-backed projects in Ndia, including the Riamugaa–Kiandangae Road, Kagio Town Road, and the Kiangwaci–Kivirigwi Road. He said these developments will improve market access for farmers and boost trade.
He also revealed that over 90 percent of households in Ndia are now connected to electricity, with plans underway to achieve full coverage.
“Electricity is not a luxury; it is a necessity for education, business, and modern living. No household in Ndia will be left behind,” Kariuki affirmed.
The MP also condemned Gachagua’s recent call for residents to heckle leaders allied to President Ruto, describing it as “irresponsible and dangerous.” He urged leaders to focus on unity, youth empowerment, and agricultural support.
Concluding his remarks, Kariuki pledged loyalty to President Ruto’s administration, saying Mt Kenya’s strength lies in speaking with one voice for progress.
