Ngong police have arrested a man suspected of being behind a string of sexual assaults targeting women in the Vet Farm area of Kajiado County. The suspect, believed to be a former inspectorate officer with the Nairobi County Government and a resident of Embulbul, was apprehended on Wednesday.
According to police reports, officers found the man in possession of a facemask, handcuffs, and other items allegedly used in the attacks. Investigators believe these tools were employed to intimidate victims and prevent them from resisting.
The suspect is accused of preying on couples who visited the popular picnic spot and religious pilgrims who frequented the area. Police allege that in several reported incidents, he would approach couples, handcuff the male partner, and then lead the woman to a nearby thicket where he allegedly raped her.
Authorities say the incidents date back to 2022, with multiple victims coming forward over time. However, the suspect had managed to evade capture until this week’s operation.
Ngong Officer Commanding Station (OCS) Jacob Ndunda commended his officers for the successful arrest and urged potential victims to assist in the ongoing investigations.
“We are appealing to anyone who may have been assaulted in a similar manner to report to Ngong Police Station. Your cooperation will help us build a strong case and ensure justice for the victims,” said Ndunda.
The arrest has brought relief to the Vet Farm community, where fears had grown over the safety of visitors. Residents and local leaders have called for increased patrols and security measures in the area, which is a popular destination for leisure activities and religious gatherings.
The suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue, with detectives working to link him to previously reported cases. If charged and convicted, he could face multiple counts of rape and unlawful detention.
Police have reiterated their commitment to protecting vulnerable individuals and ensuring that such crimes are met with swift action. They have also encouraged the public to remain vigilant and to report suspicious activities to law enforcement without delay.
