Human rights lawyer Ndegwa Njiru has criticized President William Ruto after his comments about personally deciding his 2032 successor. Njiru, a strong Ruto critic and United Opposition ally, accused the President of political posturing.
“Kasongo, you have lied to us, lied, hadi you have now started lying to yourself. Kenyans have already decided that wewe Kasongo utaenda WANTAM. Hii stori ya jaba ya 2032 unatoa wapi?” Njiru wrote on X on Sunday, September 21, 2025.
Njiru also questioned the authenticity of Ruto’s remarks, noting that the President faces a tough test in the 2027 elections. Meanwhile, Ruto’s camp, led by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, continues to mobilize support.
Ghost Schools and 2027 Strategy
Njiru raised concerns over the Ministry of Education’s recent statements on ghost students and ghost schools. He suggested the denial of ghost schools could be part of a political strategy, possibly to maintain them as polling centres for the 2027 elections.
“Surprisingly, the Ministry of Education has only acknowledged ghost students but denied ghost schools. Is it because Kasongo wants to keep these ghost schools as strategic polling centres?” Njiru asked.
So far, data verification has confirmed 20,000 schools, with capitation funds disbursed. Njiru warned the process could significantly reduce the number of schools if transparency is ignored.
As the 2027 elections approach, Njiru’s remarks intensify scrutiny over Ruto’s succession plans and electoral strategies, raising questions about governance and fairness in Kenya’s political landscape.
