Nyandarua County is in mourning following the sudden and tragic death of Nominated Member of County Assembly (MCA) Beth Wahito. The veteran politician lost her life in a grisly road accident on Saturday night, June 22, along the busy Nairobi-Nakuru Highway.
According to reports, Wahito was heading home after attending a budget committee meeting in Naivasha when her vehicle was involved in a fatal collision with a Guardian Angel bus. The accident occurred at around 11:00 p.m. near an intersection where she was reportedly attempting to drive across the road. She died on the spot.
Confirming the incident, Nyandarua County Assembly Speaker Stephen Wachira Waiganjo expressed deep sorrow at the loss and paid tribute to Wahito’s dedicated service to the people of Nyandarua. In a heartfelt statement, the Speaker described her as a courageous and committed leader who fought for the marginalized in society.
“She led with courage, strength and determination. She was not afraid to speak up for what she believed was right and worked tirelessly to uplift the lives of the underserved in her community,” read part of the statement.
Wahito’s passing marks the end of a distinguished political career that spanned over 30 years. She began her journey in politics under the Democratic Party, where she held various leadership roles. Over the years, she rose to become a prominent political figure in Nyandarua County, later serving as the NARC-Kenya chairperson in the county. Most recently, she was the Kinangop coordinator for the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
Her dedication to public service and passion for community development earned her respect across the political divide. Her death is not only a loss to her family and the Nyandarua County Assembly but also to the entire county, which benefited from her leadership and advocacy.
The wreckage of her vehicle was towed to the Naivasha Police Station as investigations into the cause of the accident continue.
Messages of condolences continue to pour in from leaders and residents across the country, remembering Wahito as a trailblazer and a tireless servant of the people.
