The National Youth Service (NYS) has come out strongly to dismiss claims that its vehicles were used to ferry individuals allegedly involved in criminal acts during the recent Saba Saba demonstrations in Naivasha. The institution termed the reports as false, malicious, and aimed at undermining its reputation.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, NYS addressed viral reports and social media posts alleging that its buses, under police escort, transported goons to disrupt peaceful protests. The service categorically denied the claims, asserting that such accusations are entirely baseless and misleading.
“The National Youth Service wishes to categorically clarify and strongly dispute the false and misleading allegations circulating on various media platforms,” the statement read. “These allegations are not only baseless and malicious, but they are also meant to unjustly tarnish the reputation of the National Youth Service, an institution committed to discipline, patriotism and national development.”
The NYS Commandant General further emphasized that the organization operates under a strict framework of accountability and apolitical conduct. He noted that the movement of all NYS assets, including vehicles, is meticulously documented and can be verified at any given moment.
“NYS personnel operate under strict command and accountability procedures. Any attempt to associate NYS with criminal or politically instigated actions is a grave misrepresentation of our core values,” the Commandant General stated.
He also urged members of the public, political leaders, and media outlets to avoid spreading unverified or sensational information, warning that such misinformation not only misguides the public but also threatens the credibility of national institutions.
The Saba Saba demonstrations, held to protest against issues such as the high cost of living and government accountability, have sparked a series of debates and counterclaims across the country. While some activists and online commentators alleged state-sponsored interference, institutions like NYS have taken a firm stance to protect their image amidst the controversy.
