Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga has taken a brief trip to Dubai for a three-day rest, following an intense period of political and personal engagements, his sister Ruth Odinga revealed on social media on Saturday.
In her post, Ruth noted that Oburu’s schedule had been “hectic and emotionally taxing,” prompting the need for a short break to rest and rejuvenate.
The remarks came shortly after Oburu himself expressed gratitude for his well-being, stating, “Feeling grateful for good health and high spirits. Taking a short sabbatical to recollect, recharge, and reset.”
Oburu’s recent weeks have been filled with significant national duties. He played a leading role in organizing the funeral of his late younger brother, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, who passed away on October 15. As a key member of the funeral committee, Oburu oversaw logistical and ceremonial arrangements, including Raila’s final resting place at the family home in Kang’o ka Jaramogi, Siaya County.
Beyond family commitments, Oburu has remained deeply involved with the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM). He chaired and participated in numerous party activities, including the milestone ODM@20 anniversary celebrations held in Mombasa earlier this month, which brought together senior party members, delegates, and supporters.
Most notably, Oburu was officially endorsed by the ODM National Governing Council as the new party leader—a recognition that strengthens his influence within the party. During recent statements, he dismissed factional attempts to divide ODM and reaffirmed the party’s focus on consolidating its base ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Oburu stressed that ODM aims for government leadership rather than remaining in opposition, declaring, “Those who want to break ODM, it will never happen in my hands. We shall not allow ODM to be divided. We are going to move forward and make ODM stronger.”
The short Dubai visit is therefore seen as a necessary pause for the senator to recharge before resuming his active role in Kenyan politics.
