Siaya Senator and newly appointed ODM party leader Oburu Odinga has embarked on a three-day trip to Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), to rest and recharge following an intense political period.
Oburu’s sister, Ruth Odinga, confirmed the trip on Saturday morning, noting that the senator was taking time off after weeks of heated political engagements. “ODM Party Leader Oburu Odinga has travelled to Dubai for a three-day visit to rest following a hectic political period,” Ruth stated.
The break comes after Oburu presided over the ODM party’s 20th Anniversary celebrations, a milestone event that marked his new leadership role within the party. An X account associated with Oburu also highlighted that the senator was taking a short sabbatical to “recollect, recharge, and reset,” a post later shared by his son, Jaoko Oburu Odinga, adding, “Feeling grateful for good health and high spirits.”
Oburu’s Dubai visit arrives at a delicate time for the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), which has recently faced internal wrangles over the party’s direction and leadership. His appointment as party leader has not been universally embraced, with some politicians raising concerns over his ability to guide the party during a politically turbulent period.
While foreign trips by Kenyan politicians are often routine for rest or formal engagements, Oburu’s sudden departure has sparked speculation among the public, given it comes just two weeks after assuming leadership of the party. Dubai, a favored destination for many Kenyan leaders in recent months, offers a blend of relaxation and luxury, making it a popular choice for short breaks.
As Oburu Odinga takes this brief pause, all eyes remain on how he will navigate the ODM’s internal dynamics and lead the party forward in the coming months.
