Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga has downplayed concerns that Gideon Moi’s recent alliance with President William Ruto will disrupt Raila Odinga’s political standing ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking during a press briefing in Bondo on Saturday, October 12, Oburu described KANU as a reputable party with a long history of national leadership. He welcomed its inclusion in the broad-based government, emphasizing that it poses no threat to Raila’s camp.
“Let everybody come in; we are not threatened by anyone. This is, in fact, a plus for all of us,” Oburu said. “I would like to encourage Gideon Moi to join the broad-based government because he is our friend, and we have worked with him and his father very harmoniously.”
The Siaya Senator urged political leaders to focus on principles and national unity rather than personal gain. He noted that Kenya is on the right political path as the country prepares for the 2027 elections.
Oburu also called on Kenyans, especially young people, to register as voters. “The registration of voters is very low. I would like to encourage our people, especially Gen Zs, to register. This is the only way we can change leadership and create a quality government,” he added.
President Ruto, speaking in Kabarak, Nakuru County on Friday, October 9, confirmed that Moi’s KANU party had agreed to collaborate with the Kenya Kwanza Alliance under the broad-based administration. Ruto said the move aims to unite Kenyans and promote development in key sectors such as education, healthcare, and infrastructure.
“I reached out to my brother so that we can help move the country forward,” Ruto said, noting that the partnership was inspired by a shared vision to lift Kenya’s economy to global standards.
