The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has issued a notice to its members in select constituencies and wards to verify their membership details ahead of upcoming by-elections.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the party listed Baringo, Banissa, Kasipul, Magarini, Malava, Mbeere North, and Ugunja constituencies as the areas where verification is required. Affected wards include Angata Nanyokie, Chemundu/Kapng’etuny, Chewani, Fafi, Kariobangi North, Kisa East, Metkei, Mumbuni North, Kabuchai/Chwele, Narok Town, Purko, Tembelio, Nyansiongo, Nyamaiya, Ekerenyo, Lake Zone, and Nanaam.
ODM emphasized that the verification exercise is already underway and called on members in the affected regions to confirm their status to ensure they are eligible to participate in the party’s internal processes leading to the by-elections. Verification can be done by dialing 483036# or through the party’s official membership website.
The party further clarified that its membership registration portal has been temporarily disabled until after the conclusion of the by-elections. This means that no new registrations or transfers of membership registration centres will be allowed during this period. ODM said this measure is intended to streamline the process and guarantee that only verified members participate in the nomination exercise.
“Members in those areas are further informed that the membership registration portal has been disabled hence no new registration until after the completion of the by-elections,” the statement read in part.
The directive is seen as part of ODM’s efforts to enhance transparency and accountability in its internal electoral processes. The party stressed that only members who have verified their details will be allowed to take part in the primaries, urging all affected members to comply with the notice to avoid being locked out.
Meanwhile, other political parties are also expected to hold their primaries ahead of the November 27 deadline, when the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is scheduled to conduct by-elections to fill vacancies in the listed constituencies and wards.
The verification exercise marks a crucial step in ODM’s preparations, as the party seeks to field strong candidates in the upcoming mini-polls.
