A section of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leaders have come out strongly to defend former Prime Minister Raila Odinga against what they termed as deliberate misinformation regarding his health. The leaders accused Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua of engaging in divisive politics aimed at discrediting Odinga.
Speaking during the Sigand Nyi Nam event in Siaya County on Sunday, Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga sharply criticized Gachagua, saying his statements were meant to sow disunity within the opposition and across the country.
“That opposition is imploding because one man called Gachagua is such a divisive character. He cannot bring people together. Baba is a uniter; Gachagua is a divider,” Wanga said.
“Raila is the glue that holds this country together. Without him, Kenya would not be as peaceful as it is today.”
Her sentiments were echoed by Siaya Woman Representative Christine Ombaka and Migori Woman Representative Fatuma Mohamed, who also took issue with the Deputy President’s alleged remarks. The two leaders urged politicians to exercise restraint and responsibility when addressing sensitive issues such as health.
They emphasized that using a leader’s health as a political weapon is not only unethical but also dangerous, especially in a nation that needs unity and healing.
Meanwhile, Suba South MP Caroli Omondi, speaking in Ugunja constituency, urged Kenyans to pray for Raila Odinga’s quick recovery and avoid spreading unverified information.
The ODM leaders maintained that Raila remains strong and focused on his political mission, dismissing claims of deteriorating health as propaganda.
Their remarks come amid heightened political tensions as speculation over Odinga’s health continues to circulate online, prompting calls for responsible communication and respect for privacy in political discourse.
