The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has officially ruled out joining any political alliance with Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, citing fundamental differences in political beliefs. The announcement came from ODM Youth League leader Kasmuel McOure on Sunday, November 9, via his official X account.
McOure emphasized that the party’s ideology is incompatible with Gachagua’s political approach, making collaboration “next to impossible.” He further warned ODM members against attempts to align with the Deputy President, even if presented as a strategic move.
“However progressive a leader may appear, whether within our ranks in ODM or without, they will not convince us to work with Rigathi Gachagua,” McOure stated.
According to the youth leader, Gachagua’s political strategy, which he described as “backwards,” has contributed to destabilizing Kenya’s political landscape. He reaffirmed that ODM will remain committed to working with President William Ruto’s administration through the existing broad-based government framework, honoring the late Raila Odinga’s vision.
McOure also highlighted that the party’s youth league will advocate for reforms to ensure ODM remains politically vibrant. “We shall remain within the Broad-Based Arrangement where Hon. Raila Odinga left us, and we shall push for all reforms necessary for a more prosperous Kenya within this framework,” he said.
The youth league plans to actively involve young members in political decision-making and hold leaders accountable for superficial commitments. McOure stressed that ODM will continue to monitor the Kenya Kwanza administration, demanding fulfillment of agreements on economic empowerment, social reforms, police reforms, and compensation for victims of police brutality.
“You must work double-time to ensure this is achieved. This is our only condition for continued support as the youth,” McOure added.
With this declaration, ODM has made it clear that while it remains part of Kenya’s broad-based government, any attempt to forge alliances with leaders whose vision conflicts with the party’s principles will face firm opposition.
