The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party has announced the postponement of its highly anticipated three-day 20th anniversary main event that was scheduled to take place in Mombasa.
In a statement released on Friday, October 3, the ODM@20 Planning Committee revealed that the decision followed a consultative meeting with party leader Raila Odinga. The committee, led by National Assembly Minority Leader Junet Mohamed, explained that the move was meant to accommodate requests from regions that have not yet hosted the celebrations.
“During our briefing to the Party Leader, we highlighted the ongoing demands from counties that we have not yet visited in the course of our anniversary engagements,” Mohamed said.
So far, the ODM@20 anniversary events have been successfully held in Busia, Wajir, Kisii, and Narok counties. However, the committee noted there was growing pressure from other regions across the country to also be included in the milestone festivities.
“Many of our supporters in different parts of Kenya have expressed their desire to be part of this historic commemoration,” Mohamed added. “By extending the celebrations, we will ensure that those who cannot travel to Mombasa still get the opportunity to participate.”
The ODM Party, which was founded in 2005, has played a central role in Kenya’s political landscape, shaping debates around democracy, governance, and reforms. Its 20th anniversary is seen not only as a time of celebration but also as a reflection on the party’s journey, struggles, and achievements under the leadership of Raila Odinga.
While new dates for the Mombasa event are yet to be announced, the postponement signals the party’s commitment to inclusivity and nationwide engagement ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The ODM leadership is expected to unveil a revised roadmap for the anniversary activities in the coming weeks, ensuring that more counties are incorporated into the celebrations.
