The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has launched a major mobilisation drive, urging supporters to book their Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) tickets for the party’s 20th anniversary celebrations in Mombasa.
Scheduled for November 14-16, the milestone event will honor party founder Raila Odinga and will feature a series of rallies, cultural showcases, and community engagements across the coastal city. ODM has specifically encouraged supporters to travel together on the morning SGR train on November 13 to ensure a united presence.
“Let’s SGR together! Book your SGR ticket now so we can travel together to celebrate Baba in Mombasa,” read a notice from the party’s communication director, Philip Etale. Organisers have urged early ticket booking, noting limited availability on a first-come, first-served basis. Supporters coordinating travel logistics have been directed to contact the party through provided phone lines.
Acting party leader Oburu Odinga described the anniversary as an opportunity to reflect on the party’s journey and celebrate Raila Odinga’s enduring political legacy. A special sitting of the National Governing Council is set for November 13, where members will assess the party’s growth and consolidate organisational strength.
The anniversary programme kicks off with an ODM Disability League Breakfast from 7am to 9am, followed by women and youth summits between 10am and 1pm on November 14. A youth concert will close the day’s activities. On November 15, the main celebrations will be held at Mama Ngina Waterfront, highlighting Raila’s vision and achievements, with an evening Founders’ Dinner at Sarova Whitesands Beach Resort. An inter-religious thanksgiving service will also be held in honor of Raila Odinga’s leadership and ODM’s journey.
The party rescheduled the celebrations from October to November to allow wider participation from counties and grassroots supporters. The Mombasa finale is expected to attract high-profile political leaders, governors, senators, MPs, and a strong presence of party members, marking a significant moment in Kenya’s political calendar.
