A section of youthful leaders from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has declared full support for acting party leader Oburu Oginga and the ongoing cooperation between the party and President William Ruto’s administration.
Speaking on Friday at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Foundation (JOOF) offices in Nairobi, the youths, drawn from all 17 constituencies of the capital, expressed their commitment to promoting unity and inclusivity within the country’s political landscape.
Led by Migori Senator Eddy Oketch and political activist Kasmuel McOure, the group described Oburu Oginga as a symbol of continuity, stability, and political maturity within ODM. They said he represents the legacy of former party leader Raila Odinga, who has long championed national cohesion and dialogue.
“We are fully behind Oburu. He has the wisdom and experience to steer ODM through this transition,” said Senator Oketch, noting that the party is entering a new era of collaboration and constructive engagement.
McOure echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing that the broad-based government initiative between ODM and President Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza administration serves the best interests of ordinary Kenyans. “As the youth of this party, we support the broad-based government and will continue working with President William Ruto,” he said.
The group dismissed critics who claim that ODM is being absorbed by the government, insisting that cooperation should not be mistaken for surrender. They urged young people to abandon confrontational politics and focus instead on job creation, innovation, and active participation in government programs.
“We also urge our party to give more space to the youth and ensure our generation is empowered,” McOure added.
The declaration comes amid ongoing internal debate within ODM about its political direction ahead of the 2027 General Election. The youths also endorsed Senator Oketch as their representative in the broad-based government to champion the interests of young people across the country.
