Siaya Deputy Governor William Oduol has made a bold move towards healing the political rift within the county’s leadership by extending an olive branch to Governor James Orengo, currently away in the United States for medical treatment.
In a press statement released on Tuesday, Oduol reaffirmed his loyalty to Governor Orengo and called for reconciliation in light of the differences that have emerged between the two top county officials. He described their disagreement as “regrettable but not insurmountable,” and emphasized the need for unity to serve the people of Siaya effectively.
“My allegiance to His Excellency is resolute and unwavering. I stand ready, as always, to receive and faithfully execute his instructions, per the law and in the best interest of the people of Siaya,” Oduol stated.
Citing Chapter Six of the Constitution, which highlights leadership and integrity, Oduol expressed his willingness to engage in dialogue guided by mutual respect and institutional order. “Leadership is not about personal ambition or rivalry; it is, and must always be, about selfless service,” he said.
Oduol’s statement comes amid growing public concern over Governor Orengo’s prolonged absence and the resulting leadership vacuum in the county. While no official communication has been issued by Orengo’s family regarding his health status, the deputy governor’s call for reconciliation signals a desire to steady the ship.
Upon Orengo’s return, Oduol pledged to initiate a consultative meeting to resolve their differences and recommit to their shared responsibilities. He also took the opportunity to stress the importance of respecting the constitutional separation of powers, particularly between the County Executive and the County Assembly.
“The County Assembly is not an extension of the Executive, nor is it mandated to perform administrative functions,” Oduol emphasized, calling on Speaker George Okode and other leaders to uphold institutional integrity.
Oduol outlined a four-point plan focusing on reconciliation, governance, engagement with the assembly, and continued public service. He concluded by urging all stakeholders in Siaya to join him in a renewed commitment to service, integrity, and constitutional order.
