Siaya Governor James Orengo has assured Kenyans that Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga is in good health, urging the public to ignore false information circulating online about his condition.
Speaking during a TV interview on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, Orengo dismissed claims that Raila had travelled to Europe for medical treatment, saying such rumours were being spread by political detractors.
“Raila is well. I know he is well. And unlike many political leaders, Raila talks openly; when he is admitted to the hospital is a matter of public knowledge. Leave alone these guesses that people are making,” Orengo stated.
His remarks came days after ODM issued a statement on October 5, 2025, condemning the opposition faction for spreading misinformation about Raila’s health. The party maintained that the former Prime Minister was in good condition and not receiving treatment abroad.
Raila’s wife, Mama Ida Odinga, also addressed the rumours while speaking at a function in Nyanza on Tuesday, October 7, 2025. She assured Kenyans that her husband was in perfect health and questioned those claiming otherwise.
“Someone who is not staying with him knows that Raila is sick, yet I don’t know,” she said, emphasizing that the rumours were baseless and malicious.
ODM’s communication director, Philip Etale, echoed similar sentiments, revealing that he had spoken to Raila directly.
“I have spoken with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga just under five minutes ago. He is jovial and happy. I am seeing people spreading so much propaganda online; let’s keep praying for them,” Etale said.
He added that Raila had sent greetings to his supporters and assured them he would be back in a few days.
The clarifications from Orengo, Ida, and Etale have eased growing concern among supporters and political observers who had been alarmed by the misleading reports.
