Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi has revealed new details about a private meeting held by the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga shortly before his trip to India for medical treatment. Speaking on Citizen TV on Monday evening, Osotsi disclosed that Raila convened a closed-door meeting at Nairobi’s Serena Hotel with top ODM officials to discuss critical party matters.
According to Osotsi, those in attendance included Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga, MPs Rosa Buyu and Junet Mohamed, and ODM’s Finance Director Joshua Kawino. The main agenda was the ODM at 20 celebrations, which had been planned to take place in Mombasa.
Osotsi said that during the meeting, Raila appeared “in high spirits” and was actively engaged in discussions about the party’s future. However, it was also in this session that he informed them of his plans to travel to India for a routine medical check-up.
“He told us he was fine but wanted to travel out of the country for medical checkups,” Osotsi recalled. “He asked us whether to proceed with the ODM at 20 event or postpone it. We agreed to wait until his return.”
The senator suggested that Raila might have had a premonition about his death, noting the symbolic nature of the ODM at 20 event, which he envisioned as a three-day celebration uniting all leaders who had passed through the party including President William Ruto.
“Raila wanted it to be a grand event, a show of unity and renewal within ODM,” Osotsi said.
His revelations come amid speculation of internal divisions within ODM as members chart the party’s future following the loss of its long-serving leader.
