Controversial city preacher Pastor James Ng’ang’a has responded furiously to Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris’s call for his arrest following a viral video in which he appeared to confess to participating in a gang assault.
In a video posted on his social media platforms, Pastor Ng’ang’a claimed that he was being unfairly targeted due to his large following, which he believes has unsettled some political leaders.
“What have I now done? You people will make phone calls to have me arrested—what is that now? There is God in heaven, and one day you will pay,” Ng’ang’a said.
“You started by attacking me over land. You don’t fear the Lord. This is the second time you are attacking me for no reason. I will now report you to God. He will handle your case,” he added.
Ng’ang’a, known for his fiery sermons and outspoken personality, insisted that while he might lack formal avenues such as Parliament to air his grievances, “God will scatter” those plotting against him.
The exchange was sparked by an undated video clip circulating online showing Ng’ang’a allegedly admitting to having been part of an eight-man gang that assaulted a woman.
“We assaulted one woman while we were eight people. We did it,” the pastor is heard saying.
However, the authenticity of the clip remains unverified.
Passaris, in a statement on her official X (Twitter) account, urged the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to probe the video to establish whether it is genuine or AI-generated.
“If that video is real, it is not a sermon; it is a criminal confession,” she stated. “The pastor should surrender to the nearest police station and name his accomplices.”
The DCI has yet to comment on the issue, but the online debate continues to divide Kenyans, with many calling for a thorough investigation into the viral clip.
