Mumias East Member of Parliament and 2027 presidential hopeful Peter Salasya is set to make a triumphant return to Kakamega County on Saturday, June 7, 2025. The homecoming marks the grand finale of his month-long nationwide tour aimed at popularising his presidential bid ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Salasya, who launched his tour on May 1 in Busia County, has travelled extensively across the country, visiting regions such as Meru, Kwale, Narok, Kajiado, and Mt. Kenya, among others. His “meet-the-people” campaign has drawn attention for its energy, theatrics, and bold declarations against the current administration led by President William Ruto.
Despite the political enthusiasm, Salasya’s journey has not been without controversy. Midway through his tour, he was arrested and arraigned in court over allegations of hate speech a development he claims is part of a wider state crackdown on dissenting voices. Nevertheless, he remained undeterred, using social media platforms to communicate directly with his supporters and defend his vision for the country.
The MP’s travels have sparked debate over the source of his campaign finances. Critics have questioned how he is funding the extensive tour, citing his previously published payslip that reflects a modest parliamentary income. Salasya, however, maintains that he is self-financed. In a post dated May 31, he humorously explained that his bachelor lifestyle leaves him with fewer financial obligations, allowing him to dedicate resources to his political ambitions.
He also refuted claims that he is a political project of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), insisting that his campaign is independent and driven by grassroots support.
“I miss Kakamega, I miss Shianda, I miss Mumias, and I miss Western Kenya,” Salasya said on Instagram. “The son of the soil has traversed the terrain… and he is ready to unravel the belief beyond.”
His return to Western Kenya is expected to draw thousands of supporters, particularly from Shianda, Mumias, and the wider Kakamega region, as he wraps up what he terms a transformative political journey.
