Kenya’s nationwide recruitment of 10,000 police constables is officially back on track after days of legal uncertainty. The National Police Service (NPS) confirmed that the exercise will take place today, Monday, November 17, 2025, across all 427 designated centres in the country.
In a statement on Sunday, the Service announced a change of venue for the Nairobi recruitment. The event, previously scheduled for the Kamukunji Sports Grounds, will now be conducted at Morrison Primary School. According to the NPS, the original venue was deemed unsuitable due to ongoing construction works.
NPS spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga emphasised that the exercise first advertised on October 31—will run from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, and will be completed in a single day. He urged qualified Kenyan youth to turn out in large numbers, describing the opportunity as both a gateway to meaningful employment and “a new dawn for Kenya.” Those selected will join a new cohort expected to support ongoing reforms within the Service.
Addressing long-standing public concerns, Nyaga issued a stern warning against bribery and corruption, noting that both the giver and receiver of illicit payments will face prosecution. He appealed for public cooperation as the Service works to strengthen professionalism, accountability, and community-centred policing.
The recruitment resumes after the High Court in Nairobi lifted earlier conservatory orders that had temporarily halted the process. Justice Bahati Mwamuye allowed the exercise to proceed after the Inspector-General of Police, Douglas Kanja, successfully applied for a stay of the initial suspension.
The suspension stemmed from a petition filed by activist Eliud Matindi, who argued that the National Police Service Commission (NPSC) and not the Inspector-General is constitutionally mandated to handle recruitment under Article 246(3)(a) of the Constitution. The court will hear the matter inter partes at a later date, but the stay order now permits the recruitment to continue.
With legal obstacles cleared, recruitment teams convened at the NPS Campus B in Embakasi to finalise preparations, paving the way for today’s nationwide exercise.
