Police in Kerio Valley have recovered three more AK-47 rifles and 32 rounds of ammunition from members of the public, marking another success in the ongoing disarmament campaign dubbed Operation Rudisha Bunduki.
In a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, the National Police Service (NPS) confirmed that residents from Murukutwo, Chemwonyo, and Kibaimwa voluntarily surrendered the weapons at Tot Police Station. The NPS commended the community for its growing cooperation with security officers in promoting peace and stability across Elgeyo Marakwet and West Pokot counties.
“Three members of the public from Murukutwo, Chemwonyo, and Kibaimwa in Kerio Valley have responded positively to Operation Rudisha Bunduki, voluntarily surrendering three AK-47 firearms and thirty-two rounds of ammunition to security agencies at Tot Police Station,” the statement read in part.
The latest surrender brings the total number of firearms recovered in the region to 285, alongside 2,071 rounds of ammunition and one rifle grenade. According to police, the progress reflects a decline in armed confrontations that have long disrupted livelihoods in the North Rift.
Security officials emphasized that voluntary disarmament remains the preferred approach, encouraging residents to continue cooperating by reporting hidden weapons or suspicious activities. “The National Police Service commends the local community for its positive response to this disarmament initiative and acknowledges its continued support in fostering peace in the region,” the NPS added.
Authorities further urged citizens to share information anonymously through toll-free hotlines 999, 911, or 112, or by using #FichuaKwaDCI via 0800 722 203 or WhatsApp 0709 570 000.
