Chief Justice Martha Koome and three Cabinet Secretaries have made a series of new government appointments. The changes were announced through a Gazette Notice and affect the justice sector, energy regulation, health research, and trade.
Koome Extends Tenure of Justice Committees
CJ Koome extended the tenure of several committees under the National Council on the Administration of Justice (NCAJ) for another three years. These include:
- Court Users Committee – Catherine Mburu, Maureen Wangari Maina, and Mirriam Wachira have been appointed. Justice Emily Ominde’s 2022 appointment was revoked.
- ICT Committee – Bridgitte Ndong, Sammy Linus, Evelyn Wambui Mwangi, and Hezekiah Aseso Omollo have joined. Rose Mosero, Nyanje K. Kitsao, Andrew Opiyo, and Stardust Mwende were removed.
- SGBV Committee – Lydia Mulei, Phylis Muriuki, and Ann Wanjiku Mwangi were appointed. Three earlier appointees lost their seats.
- Civil Justice Reforms Committee – Janet Kungu, Ernest Kioko, and Doreen M. Ndemo joined, while Sylvia Yiantet Kooke’s appointment was revoked.
The Standing Committee on the Administration of Justice for Children will remain unchanged.
Cabinet Secretaries Announce New Appointments
Energy CS Opiyo Wandayi appointed Simon Anthony Njuguna to the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority, replacing Anthony Gachau Mbuthia.
Health CS Aden Duale appointed Salome Owuonda to the Board of Directors of the Kenya Institute of Primate Research.
Trade CS Lee Kinyanjui made the largest set of changes. He appointed 78 inspectors under the Standards Act to boost compliance and quality in trade and industry.
Strengthening Justice and Governance
These appointments and revocations are aimed at improving service delivery in courts, enhancing regulation in energy and trade, and supporting health research. The government says the changes will strengthen governance and efficiency across key sectors.
