Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua concluded his visit to Texas, USA, on Monday with a farewell dinner hosted by Abagusii community leaders, marking a key moment in his ongoing U.S. tour aimed at building diaspora support ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Gachagua, who has been crisscrossing various states in the U.S. including Boston, Massachusetts, Maryland, and Seattle, expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Abagusii community in Texas for their warm reception. Taking to his official X account, he lauded the leaders for their hospitality, stating, “Thank you so much for your hospitality and kindness to the leaders of the Abagusii community living and working in Texas.”
During the dinner, Gachagua engaged the community in an open dialogue about the current state of affairs in Kenya. He emphasized the need to “liberate the nation from dictatorship, state capture, economic mismanagement, and abuse of the rule of law.” His message resonated with many in the diaspora who have been closely following the political developments back home.
Accompanied by his wife, Pastor Dorcas Rigathi, the former DP was warmly received in Dallas three days prior, continuing his meet-the-people-in-the-diaspora tour. The couple’s presence has drawn considerable attention, with several Kenyan communities turning out in large numbers to interact with them during town hall meetings and community engagements.
Gachagua’s U.S. visit is widely seen as a strategic move to strengthen his political base and appeal to diaspora voters, a demographic increasingly influential in shaping Kenyan politics. Beyond political rhetoric, he has also met with American businesspeople and potential investors to present the opposition as a credible alternative capable of driving economic transformation in Kenya.
A central figure in the opposition coalition, Gachagua has been working closely with Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Martha Karua, Eugene Wamalwa, and other political heavyweights including Fred Matiang’i, Justin Muturi, and Mithika Linturi, as they lay the groundwork for a united front ahead of 2027.
As his U.S. tour continues, Gachagua’s message of reform and democratic renewal is likely to gain further traction among diaspora Kenyans eager for change back home.
