A young entrepreneur from Kanduyi Constituency, Bungoma County, left President William Ruto in stitches after he humorously revealed that he drew inspiration from the president’s famous chicken-selling story when starting his business journey.
Speaking during the launch of the NYOTA Project at the Mumias Sports Complex in Kakamega County on Friday, November 7, 2025, Isaac Juma Busoro shared how his entrepreneurial journey began under the Kenya Youth Employment Opportunities Project (KYEOP) in 2022.
Busoro narrated that after completing business training under KYEOP, he received a grant of Ksh18,000, which he used to start a pig-farming business. “Your Excellency, my dear president, I decided to challenge you because you were a chicken seller — so I ventured into pig farming,” he said, sparking laughter from the crowd and the president himself.
He further explained that after proving his commitment, his group later received an additional Ksh20,000 grant to expand their project. Busoro credited his success to the motivation he drew from President Ruto’s life story and the government’s continued youth empowerment initiatives.
In response, President Ruto praised Busoro for his creativity and determination, reaffirming his government’s commitment to supporting young people through the NYOTA Fund.
“Apart from qualifying for the initial Ksh25,000, we will walk with you until you can qualify for up to Ksh200,000,” Ruto said, emphasizing that the fund will include Persons with Disabilities and refugees to promote inclusivity.
The president also announced plans to sponsor 90,000 young people to acquire skills and certifications in various trades. “We will pay for their training, certification, and even give stipends to support them throughout the program,” he added.
The event drew hundreds of youth from Western Kenya, showcasing inspiring stories of empowerment and resilience under government-backed youth programs.
