Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma has drawn attention after linking the assassination of American conservative activist Charlie Kirk to the Democratic Party’s agenda.
Kaluma made the remarks on Sunday, September 14, 2025, through a statement on X (formerly Twitter). His comments have since sparked heated debate both in Kenya and abroad.
Kaluma’s Controversial Statement
Kaluma suggested that Kirk’s death was symbolic in the battles he fought against liberal causes.
He wrote:
“The body of Charlie Kirk will go into the grave with the Democratic Party and its LGBTQ/CSE/DEI/anti-religion agenda forever! Charlie has spoken the loudest in his assassination.”
The legislator is well known in Kenya for opposing LGBTQ rights. His latest statement, however, has been criticized by many who feel it was insensitive so soon after Kirk’s death.
Memorial Plans in the U.S.
Meanwhile, preparations are underway for a massive memorial service in the United States. Turning Point USA, the group Kirk co-founded, confirmed the service will be held on September 21 at State Farm Stadium in Arizona.
The stadium can host over 60,000 people, and the public has been invited to celebrate Kirk’s life and legacy.
High-profile leaders expected to attend include:
- President Donald Trump
- Vice President JD Vance
- Secretary of State Marco Rubio
Arizona holds special meaning as Kirk’s home state and the base of his organization.
The Assassination
Charlie Kirk, aged 31, was shot dead on September 10, 2025, while speaking at an outdoor event in Utah. Police later identified the suspected gunman as Tyler Robinson. He surrendered the following night and was taken into custody.
Kirk is survived by his wife, Erika, and their two children. In her first public remarks, Erika vowed to continue her husband’s mission.
