Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, accompanied by his wife Pastor Dorcas Rigathi, received a warm and spirited welcome from the Kenyan diaspora upon landing in Dallas, Texas, marking the latest stop in his ongoing two-month tour of the United States.
The couple touched down at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport to a vibrant display of Kenyan culture, with flower bouquets and celebratory dances from members of the Kenyan community in the US. The reception highlighted the pride and solidarity of Kenyans abroad, many of whom turned out in large numbers to show support for the visiting dignitaries.
“In the company of my spouse, Pastor Dorcas, we touched down at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport to the great joy and overwhelming love of Kenyans,” Gachagua said in a statement. “It is a great pleasure to be in the State of Texas. We look forward to candid engagements with Kenyans living and working here on the future of our nation. I am excited to be in the great Lone Star State.”
Following the airport reception, Gachagua and Pastor Dorcas were driven to a nearby ranch, which prominently featured a sign that read “Karibu Wamunyoro Texas,” welcoming the guests in traditional Kikuyu language and style. The symbolic gesture emphasized the deep cultural roots and sense of belonging that many Kenyans in the diaspora continue to uphold.
The visit to Texas comes after Gachagua’s previous stops in Boston, Massachusetts, Maryland, and Seattle. During these engagements, the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader has held a series of town hall meetings aimed at strengthening connections with the diaspora, promoting investment opportunities, and sharing his vision for Kenya’s future.
Gachagua’s visit underscores the growing importance of the Kenyan diaspora in shaping national discourse, particularly in matters of development, governance, and civic engagement. As his US tour continues, expectations are high that more conversations around inclusivity, accountability, and diaspora integration into Kenya’s political and economic spheres will take center stage.
For now, the warm Texas welcome serves as a strong testament to the enduring bond between Kenyans at home and abroad.
