Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has emphasized the need for stronger collaboration between the National and County Governments to fast-track development and improve public service delivery across Kenya.
Speaking on Monday, July 28, 2025, at the County Commissioner’s Office in Kitale, Trans Nzoia County, Murkomen said the region holds a strategic position in Kenya’s food production and regional stability, underscoring the importance of unity in achieving national growth goals.
“Trans Nzoia plays a critical role in food security. The government is committed to ensuring that markets remain open and accessible to support our farmers and local traders,” he stated.
Addressing historical land disputes, Murkomen vowed to reclaim illegally acquired public land, assuring residents that all grabbed parcels would be recovered and returned to their rightful owners.
Turning to matters of security, the CS expressed concern over the rising cases of alcohol and drug abuse in the region, which he attributed in part to the smuggling of contraband goods through porous borders. He issued a stern warning to security officers involved in such illegal trade.
“Security officers are aiding these illegal activities, and I am warning that action will be taken against anyone involved,” Murkomen said.
He also condemned the increasing presence of criminal gangs, especially those being used by political actors to disrupt public functions. Murkomen called on elected leaders to support law enforcement in rooting out such elements.
“I want to urge elected leaders to work closely with law enforcement and county officials to dismantle such groups and uphold peace and order in the region,” he added.
The visit marked the 22nd stop in Murkomen’s Jukwaa La Usalama grassroots engagement tour. During his time in Trans Nzoia, he met with the county security team, inspected registration services at the ACC Central Division in Saboti Sub-County, and held discussions with Governor George Natembeya.
Murkomen was accompanied by Deputy Inspector General of the Administration Police Service Gilbert Masengeli, Regional Police Commander Jasper Ombati, Regional Administration Police Commander John Amadadi, and other senior officials.
