Hundreds of Muslims gathered in Nairobi this weekend to celebrate the birth of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). The event, known as Mawlid an-Nabi, is one of the most important days in the Islamic calendar.
A Peaceful Procession
The celebrations began with a colorful and peaceful procession. Worshippers filled the streets with prayers and chants of praise. The event was organized by Madrassat Ainnat and Memon Jamaat Imtiaz Masjid.
Bilal Abdilaziz, Co-ordinator of Nairobi ZEFE 2025, spoke about the purpose of the gathering.
“All mosques have come together, Alhamdulillah. We thank all institutions who made this event a success as we plan to do more for society,” he said.
Free Medical Camp
The procession ended at Al Hudaa Mosque, where a free two-day medical camp was set up. Now in its second year, the camp has become an important service to the community.
Volunteer doctors and nurses offered:
- General check-ups
- Dental care
- Eye examinations
- Minor surgical treatments
Many residents welcomed the services. One parent said, “I brought my child for a check-up and received the medicine I needed. I ask the government to copy this idea for the less fortunate.”
Call for Better Healthcare
While the camp was praised, some participants criticized the Social Health Authority (SHA). They said the authority had failed to provide adequate surgical care and urged the government to do more.
Faith and Service Together
Organizers hope to expand the initiative in the coming years. They believe blending faith with service is the best way to honor Prophet Muhammad’s teachings of compassion and care for the community.
