Kenya has formally confirmed former Administration Police Deputy Inspector General Noor Gabow as its Consul General to Haiti, marking a significant step in the strengthening of diplomatic relations between the two nations. Gabow officially assumed his role after presenting his credentials to Haiti’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Worship, Jean-Victor Harvel Jean-Baptiste, during a ceremony held at the Foreign Ministry headquarters in Port-au-Prince.
The confirmation comes just a month after Gabow led the first contingent of Kenyan police officers deployed to Haiti under a UN-backed mission aimed at restoring stability in the crisis-hit Caribbean nation. Kenya is spearheading a multinational security support mission, with President William Ruto committing to help combat the escalating gang violence and lawlessness that have gripped Haiti in recent years.
Following the formal presentation of credentials, Gabow held a private audience with Minister Jean-Baptiste, during which he conveyed greetings from President Ruto and the Kenyan people. He pledged to deepen bilateral cooperation, particularly in areas of peacebuilding, law enforcement, and humanitarian support.
“This appointment is not only a diplomatic milestone but also a demonstration of Kenya’s commitment to supporting Haiti in its pursuit of peace and security,” Gabow stated. “We stand in solidarity with the people of Haiti and are determined to work hand in hand to promote stability and sustainable development.”
Gabow’s extensive experience in policing and peacekeeping, including leading roles in regional security operations, makes him a strategic choice for this critical assignment. His leadership during the initial deployment of Kenyan forces earned him praise for professionalism and discipline.
The establishment of a Kenyan consulate in Haiti is part of Nairobi’s broader foreign policy shift to engage more proactively in global peace and security efforts. It also marks the beginning of a formal diplomatic presence aimed at facilitating coordination of the peace mission and fostering long-term development cooperation.
With his appointment, Gabow is expected to play a pivotal role in shaping Kenya-Haiti relations and ensuring the success of the security intervention. His presence on the ground is seen as a strong signal of Kenya’s enduring commitment to Haiti’s recovery.
