The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has intensified its global diplomatic engagements with a high-level visit to Moscow, Russia, where it held extensive consultations with United Russia Party (URP), the ruling political party in the Russian Federation.
The ODM delegation was led by Deputy Party Leader and Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi, who emphasized the significance of “political party diplomacy” in fostering democratic growth and strengthening institutional capacities. The delegation was warmly received at the URP headquarters by Andrey Klimov, Deputy Chairperson of the Federal Council’s Committee on Foreign Relations and a member of URP’s Supreme Council, underscoring the high-profile nature of the discussions.
According to an official statement from ODM, the meeting focused on deepening institutional ties, exchanging best practices in political organisation, and exploring collaborative strategies in party development and governance. Osotsi conveyed a goodwill message from ODM Party Leader Raila Odinga, reiterating ODM’s commitment to global partnerships that can help shape Kenya’s political future.
“The interaction with URP was not just symbolic; it was strategic,” said Osotsi. “We are keen on learning and sharing experiences that can enrich democratic processes both at home and abroad.”
The meeting took place alongside an official visit by Kenyan legislators to Russia and included several senior ODM figures. These included Siaya Senator and ODM Trustee Dr. Oburu Oginga, Rarieda MP and ODM Vice Chairperson Dr. Otiende Amollo, and Kitengela Ward MCA Paul Matuyia.
ODM stressed that such engagements are part of a broader strategy to build meaningful political networks and prepare the party for future national milestones. This includes the much-anticipated National Delegates Convention (NDC) set for October 2025 a pivotal event in the lead-up to the 2027 General Elections.
By engaging with URP, ODM is signaling its intent to forge strategic international alliances that contribute to internal party reforms, leadership training, and policy development elements seen as essential in shaping a credible and competitive opposition ahead of the next electoral cycle.
