President William Ruto has urged Tanzanian leaders and citizens to embrace dialogue and peace amid ongoing post-election violence that has rocked the country since the October 29, 2025, general election.
While congratulating President Samia Suluhu Hassan on her re-election, Ruto emphasized the importance of tolerance and democratic engagement to resolve the political crisis.
“On behalf of the Government and the people of the Republic of Kenya, and on my own behalf, I extend sincere congratulations to Her Excellency Samia Suluhu Hassan on her re-election in the General Election held on 29 October 2025,” he said in a statement on Monday, November 3.
Ruto urged all political actors in Tanzania to put the interests of the nation first, uphold the rule of law, and engage in dialogue to safeguard democracy and stability.
“I call upon the patriotic people of Tanzania to uphold peace and the rule of law, and I encourage all political actors and stakeholders to embrace dialogue and tolerance as they seek to resolve any issues at hand,” he added.
The Kenyan Head of State also expressed readiness to support regional peace efforts, stating that Kenya remained committed to promoting stability across East Africa.
“Kenya stands ready to continue engaging constructively in the pursuit of our shared vision for a peaceful, prosperous, and integrated East Africa,” Ruto noted.
However, Ruto’s message came amid growing concerns over reports that several Kenyans were among those killed during the violent protests in Tanzania.
VOCAL Africa CEO Hussein Khalid revealed that a Kenyan teacher, John Okoth Ogutu, was allegedly shot dead in Ubungo, Dar es Salaam, on election day. His body is reportedly being held at Mwananyamala Mortuary.
According to reports, President Suluhu held phone conversations with Ruto and Uganda’s Yoweri Museveni last Wednesday as tensions escalated, signaling possible regional mediation efforts.
