President William Ruto has lauded the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) for their dedication to protecting the nation and contributing to Kenya’s development. Speaking at the 2025 KDF Day celebrations at Moi Barracks in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County, the President described the armed forces as the “living shield” of Kenya’s sovereignty.

The annual KDF Day commemorates the anniversary of Operation Linda Nchi, Kenya’s military intervention in Somalia in 2011. Since 2012, the day has celebrated the bravery and commitment of Kenyan soldiers both at home and abroad. This year’s theme, “Enhancing a Soldier-Centric Approach Towards Mission Readiness for National Security and Development”, reflects the government’s focus on improving the welfare and operational capability of the armed forces.

- Enhanced Healthcare and Family Support: Ruto announced expanded medical services, accelerated housing projects, and improved family support programs to ensure soldiers perform optimally.
- Training and Professional Development: Investments in modern training facilities, advanced technology integration, and international cooperation aim to equip troops with world-class skills in both conventional and modern warfare.
- Defense Modernization: The government is fast-tracking the acquisition of advanced equipment, mobility platforms, and cyber intelligence systems to strengthen KDF’s mission readiness.

President Ruto highlighted initiatives like the Ulinzi Construction Company, which utilizes KDF expertise in national infrastructure projects, particularly in challenging terrains.
