Popular Mugithi artist and Administration Police officer Samuel Ndirangu Muchoki, known widely as Samidoh, has sparked fresh controversy after being spotted in the United States with former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i. The meeting, which took place on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, occurred while Samidoh is officially listed as a deserter by the National Police Service (NPS).
Photos circulating online show the celebrated musician and Matiang’i, a 2027 presidential hopeful, warmly greeting each other outside what appears to be a restaurant. The meeting has intensified speculation over Samidoh’s political leanings, especially following his recent remarks during a live performance where he allegedly endorsed the idea of a one-term presidency for William Ruto.
Samidoh is in the U.S. for a month-long tour of performances scheduled to run until July 14, 2025. However, his presence abroad has raised eyebrows within security circles. According to an internal police memo dated June 9, 2025, Samidoh failed to report back to his post at the Anti-Stock Theft Unit (MTD Company) in Gilgil on May 27 after being granted official leave.
The NPS has since declared him a deserter as of June 6, with authorities saying they have lost contact with him and that efforts to trace him have been unsuccessful. His pay has been suspended, and Stockpol MTD Company has been instructed to initiate disciplinary proceedings. The Central Records Office in Nairobi is also set to publish his desertion notice in the next edition of the National Police Gazette.
This incident follows Samidoh’s attendance at a recent meeting of Mt Kenya musicians hosted by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki in Karen. Despite not formally endorsing any political candidate, his engagements and public statements continue to stir debate.
As questions grow around Samidoh’s commitment to his police duties, the spotlight also turns to his political associations, especially amid Matiang’i’s rumoured collaboration with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka ahead of the 2027 elections.
