President William Ruto on Sunday arrived in Lugari, Kakamega County, to attend a special church service and the annual Kivaywa Yearly Meeting convened by the Friends Quakers and the Matete Christian Fellowship. The religious gathering is being held at Friends’ Comprehensive School, Kivaywa, a venue of spiritual and cultural significance for the local community.
The President was warmly received by a host of regional leaders, including Lugari Member of Parliament Nabii Nabwera and Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa, who are co-hosting the high-profile event. Also in attendance are National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, and Bungoma Governor Ken Lusaka, among several other elected leaders from across Western Kenya.
The event not only marks a key moment on the religious calendar for Quakers in the region but also reflects the President’s continued outreach to the Western bloc—a politically significant region with a growing voice in national affairs. President Ruto’s presence at the annual meeting highlights his administration’s intention to remain engaged with communities at the grassroots level and to promote interfaith unity.
This visit follows a series of engagements the President has recently held in Kakamega County and the wider Western region, signaling a sustained political and development-oriented presence. Over the past year, Ruto has made multiple trips to the area to launch infrastructure projects, interact with local leaders, and listen to the concerns of residents.
During his address, the President is expected to touch on matters of national unity, development priorities, and the role of the church in fostering peace and moral guidance. Religious institutions, he has often stated, are key partners in achieving the government’s bottom-up economic transformation agenda.
As worshippers gather in their thousands, the occasion also serves as a moment of reflection and hope for many in the region, strengthening ties between the national government and the people of Western Kenya.
