President William Ruto has sent a message of condolence to the family of Kikuyu Member of Parliament and National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah following the death of his father, Mzee Isaac Ngugi.
According to a statement from the Office of the Speaker of the National Assembly, Mzee Ngugi passed away peacefully in his sleep at his Kikuyu home on Thursday. He was aged 105. His death came just a week after being discharged from Karen Hospital, where he had been admitted for a short illness.
In his tribute, President Ruto described the late Ngugi as an “industrious and astute businessman” whose influence was felt beyond his family. “Our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends for the passing of Mzee Isaac Ngugi, the father of Kimani Ichung’wah,” Ruto said.
The President hailed him as one of the pioneers of Kikuyu Town, noting his contributions to the community. “Mzee touched many lives through his many transformative initiatives that supported the vulnerable. His legacy will live on. Rest in peace, Mzee,” he added.
Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetang’ula urged MPs and leaders to pay their respects to the family starting Tuesday, September 9, 2025. Further details on the Requiem Mass and interment are expected to be announced by the family in the coming days as funeral arrangements get underway.
Other leaders have also joined in mourning Mzee Ngugi. Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen described him as a man who raised a leader of great stature. “I wish to express my heartfelt condolences to the family of my dear friend Kimani Ichung’wah, the Leader of Majority in the National Assembly, following the passing of his father, Mzee Isaac Ichung’wah Ngugi. My prayers are with you and your family during these difficult times. Poleni sana,” Murkomen said.
The passing of Mzee Isaac Ngugi marks the end of a century-long life marked by community service, resilience, and entrepreneurship. His memory, family and leaders say, will continue to inspire generations in Kikuyu and beyond.
